Interesting bit of comics news that I’m surprised I’ve heard absolutely no one besides my parents talking about, DC comics is slated to add a teenage Cree woman named Miiyahbin from Moosonee, Ontario to their Justice League United title. The writer, Canadian Jeff Lemire (of Essex County Trilogy and Sweet Tooth fame) said her character was inspired by the story of Shannen Koostachin, a 15 year old Cree activist who led a lobby for First Nations education and died in a car crash shortly before her 16th birthday. Wanting to do justice to her legacy Lemire has stated in interviews that he visited Moose Factory to talk to residents there about how they would like to see the character portrayed. (ie no beads, fringe, feathers, or loincloths) It’ll be interesting to see how this character falls in with the current lineup. I have to say I was skeptical when I first heard she was going to have nature based powers (it’s always nature based powers) but Jeff Lemire seems legitimately concerned with making something the community will be proud of.

Adrianne Haslet-Davis dances again for the first time since the Boston terrorist attack last year.

When the bombs went off at the Boston Marathon finish line, Adrianne Haslet-Davis lost the lower half of her left leg in the explosion. She’s a ballroom dance teacher, and she assumed she would never dance again. With most prosthetics, she wouldn’t.

But Hugh Herr, of the MIT Media Lab, wanted to find a way to help her. He created a bionic limb specifically for dancers, studying the way they move and adapting the limb to fit their motion. (He explains how he did it here.)

At TED2014, Adrianne danced for the first time since the attack, wearing the bionic limb that Hugh created for her.

Hugh says, “It was 3.5 seconds between the bomb blasts in the Boston terrorist attack. In 3.5 seconds, the criminals and cowards took Adrianne off the dance floor. In 200 days, we put her back. We will not be intimidated, brought down, diminished, conquered or stopped by acts of violence.”

Amen to that, Hugh.

Each designer has a signature piece which represents their whole aesthetic, and in my mind this corset from Alexander McQueen Fall/Winter 1996 is quintessentially everything that Lee stood for. The lilac silk faille corset was covered in a web of black lace and embroidered with beads, inspired by the Victorian age (it was symbolic for mourning) as many of McQueen’s earlier pieces were. Its sharp high neck obstructed the view of the model and had a look as if it belonged to the villain of some twisted fairytale, making the piece raw and unapologetic, but also added a kind of melancholy. This piece is alluring but not particulary conventionally beautiful, which is one of the things that I admire about McQueen’s work; he has this innate ability to find beauty even in the darkest of places, to give ugliness a new kind of attraction. This artistic eye lead McQueen to create an unmatched legacy of haunting collections that will go down in history. image via.

On my way to see family in Michigan. I’ll be gone all weekend. The queue is up and running. I’m unsure how active I’ll be on here over the next few days. Feel free to drop me a message. I’ll get to it when I can.

i need to be a bit more confident in the way i see myself so i can see myself as pretty and stuff like that and not think all these negative things, especially with seeing pictures of myself and allowing their posting and stuff, its pretty hard but i’m working on it and i think this cosplay kinda helped

but yeah here’s another picture i took of my bayonetta cosplay

One of those 5 facts things

So, seeing as tagged me in hers and it’s the first time anyone’s ever tagged me in things, you all get to know 5 things a really like about myself

1. I like my voice and the things it does.

2. I like that I can recognise that people care about me, you get used…

Oh gosh! I got tagged to do a thing! I’m typing from my phone atm so these will probably be brief. 1. I like that I can cook just about anything I decide to try. 2. I like that I have an artistic side to myself even though it doesn’t always show or decide to cooperate. 3. I like having the drive to learn. I’m always curious about things and enjoy looking up facts and info about any given subject. 4. I like that I am generally patient. I try my best to keep from being impatient with people and situations out of my control. 5. I like being even tempered. I hate wasting energy on being angry over little things that don’t matter in the grander scheme of things. Ok, so I guess it’s tagging time. Please don’t feel obligated to do this if you are uncomfortable with the idea. themidnitespookshow theslippertroll lostdesertdog rottingrootsarts theskybornemusketeer ohaiglitch ask-nettles tiaras-n-teakettles strawberry-scales
